    Course Overview

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the United States Navy,
designed for individuals seeking a foundational understanding of its structure,
operations, and global mission. Whether you’re a civilian professional new to
the Department of Defense, a service member from another military branch, or
simply curious about naval operations, this course delivers a clear and engaging
overview of one of the world’s most capable maritime forces.
Led by a retired Navy Supply Corps Officer with extensive experience across
shipboard, shore, and Pentagon-level assignments, the course demystifies the
Navy’s organization from the Department of the Navy down to fleet-level
operations. Learners will gain insight into the Navy’s dual administrative and
operational chains of command, including the roles of the Chief of Naval
Operations (CNO), Fleet Commanders, and Type Commanders.
Topics include the Navy’s mission, historical development, global posture, and a
detailed breakdown of sea and aviation platforms. Special focus is placed on the
structure and function of Carrier Strike Groups and Amphibious Ready Groups, as
well as their supporting air wings and combat elements. Learners will also
explore the Navy’s major support and systems commands, the global presence of
numbered fleets, and a wide range of independent operations such as humanitarian
missions, maritime security, and undersea warfare.
By the end of the course, participants will have a deeper appreciation for how
the Navy operates, how it contributes to national security, and how its forces
are structured to support operations across the globe.
